Woman stands up against illegal abortions in Ladysmith

After falling victim to a scam by herbalists and illegal abortion practitioners, Sibongile Kubeka decided to start the ‘Emasisweni’ project which deals with youth development, skills development and community development.

The project was established by Sibongile in 2007 and she has been helping communities ever since.

The project also helps with counselling for women who have undergone back-street abortions and people who have been scammed by herbalists. Her project arranges counselling for these people.

“As you walk around town, buildings are full of posters of these herbalists claiming they do safe and free abortions, that they can get you jobs and more money, which is all a scam,” says Sibongile.

She is currently working on a documentary that raises awareness about herbalists and illegal abortion practitioners. Her aim is to warn people about these scam artists and also expose them through the documentary.

If you have been a victim of a herbalist scam or have had an illegal abortion and need to speak to someone, Sibongile encourages you to call her on 0631835280 for assistance.
