Lovely, chilly, rain-free afternoon of bowls

Well, winter certainly arrived very suddenly, but it didn’t deter the old stalwarts from coming out on Saturday afternoon and participating in the sponsored tabs-in.

The bowlers who did play had a lovely, chilly, rain-free afternoon and seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, so thanks very much for making the effort.

Unfortunately, the bar appears to be out of stock of the good stuff, namely Old Brown Sherry.

The winners were Clyde Newton and Fran Baleri – I think that combination is the oldest member and the youngest, so well done to both of you!

Second place went to Bennie Malan, Jaco Fick and Paddy Barnardo. I think something was rigged there!

Third place went to Rodney Perrin, Willie Scholtz and Eros Jannon. The most bowls played went to Magriet Coetzee, Veronica Malan and Richard Lottering.

Thanks once again to you all.

The men travelled to Bergville to take part in the Midlands Trials on Sunday, and congratulations must go to Rodney Perrin and Donovan Fischer for being selected. Hard luck to the other men who were not selected and hopefully we will see a lot more of our members selected next year.

Okay, so May is almost halfway through and once again the time moved faster than my aging brain. Here goes with birthday wishes for the May babies: Barbara Elworthy, Eros Jannon, Naomi Johnson, Des Maartens, Shenaaz Singh, Neha Singh and Maureen Streatfield. Only one man born in the same month as all the lovely ladies!

Nothing on the calendar for the next couple of weeks, so lots of practice for the Inter-Zone Tournament in Richards Bay at month-end.

“See You On The Greens!”
