59-year-old Amrithlal Basdew doesn’t mind sharing his blood, as he is determined to save lives.
On Monday morning, Mr Basdew made his 77th blood donation at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic at San Marco Centre. He is an A-Positive donor who doesn’t only have a lovely smile, but a huge heart as well. Of course he does; it’s the heart that pumps all that blood he donates so freely to give life to people he doesn’t even know.
He tells the Ladysmith Gazette that he started donating at a young age and has never stopped.
He visits the clinic regularly, adding that he also enjoys the good company of the helpful staff of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).
He is described by the staff as a friendly person who gets along with anyone.
“Come and donate blood today! If I can do it, so can you!” says Mr Basdew.
One pint of blood can save up to three lives, so it is of vital importance that blood gets donated, as there is no other way to get blood to help those in need.
He says he has noticed a positive change in his body, which he believes is due to donating blood.
