Centenary Road is known as one of the busiest streets in Ladysmith and also known for big businesses, says Councillor Abbas Warasally.
“And for the street to be filled with the stench of rotten sewage is just a disgrace,” he adds.
Business owners in Centenary Road are up-in-arms due to a major sewer problem they say has greatly affected their businesses.
Rajbir Bumra contacted Cllr Warasally, who went out to investigate the matter. What he saw left him in shock.
In Rajbir’s business premises, sewage is flowing like a river, with some of his workers saying they want to leave work due to the stench they have to put up with.
Rajbir has contacted uThukela on numerous occasions and they have come out to attend to the problem, but a few days later, the sewer water just starts leaking again.
Cllr Warasally adds that this major sewer problem is a health hazard to workers and customers who come to the area. He will be taking the matter further with uThukela to have the problem fixed so that business operations can be conducted in the proper manner once again.
