Sports ground turned into sewer dam in Ladysmith

The Vishnu Ground in Rose Park has turned into a sewer dam, according to DA councillor Valentino Murugan, who has had numerous calls from concerned residents and sports players who use the ground.

Cllr Murugan says the problem sprung up a few months ago and the sewage is coming from underground.

The ground is used by soccer and cricket players for training, yet now they feel they can only use half the ground, as the other half is covered with sewer water.

Cllr Murugan added that used condoms litter the area, which is terribly unhygienic, not to mention that many children use the grounds for their sporting events.

“The stench is unbearable on some days. We can’t even train due to the smell,” said one of the soccer players.

Cllr Murugan will be taking the matter further with uThukela to solve the problem.
