Umgeni Water and uThukela District Municipality signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday in which Umgeni Water will operate and manage existing bulk potable water schemes and also assess future infrastructure needs in order to enhance water services provision within uThukela District.
This, it is hoped, will ultimately translate into a lasting collaboration that will ensure an affordable and reliable supply of safe drinking water and wastewater.
As is widely accepted, water is a powerful stimulus for economic growth and social development, both of which are vitally required for radical reduction of the triple challenges of unemployment, inequality and poverty.
The board, management and staff of Umgeni Water are delighted to be associated with uThukela District Municipality in its strategies to enhance and extend service delivery through ensuring sustainability of water supply and refurbishment, maintenance and provision of infrastructure that will make this possible.
According to Umgeni Water, they are committed to providing requisite support that will enable all consumers to benefit, both from affordability and quality service perspectives.
To commemorate the establishment of the partnership with uThukela District Municipality, Umgeni Water arranged a function on Wednesday morning at Naunton’s Guest House, where a formal signing of the agreement took place.
This function provided a platform for stakeholders to receive exposure to the contents of the partnership agreement, meet with political leadership and personnel of uThukela District Municipality, and with management and staff of Umgeni Water.
It also provided an opportunity to learn about Umgeni Water and its performance as the largest water board in KwaZulu-Natal.
