uThukela leaves local sports stars stranded

The uThukela District sports team was left stranded in Ugu Municipality in Port Shepstone after uThukela failed to organise accommodation for the local stars.

Having left their homes to travel to Port Shepstone on Wednesday (December 7) to represent uThukela District in the SALGA Games taking place, the team found themselves without accommodation, resulting in them sleeping in the buses and taxis they arrived in.

To top it all off, the team also received supper at about 2am this morning, another sign of how poorly organised uThukela’s participation in the games is.

According to a source, the team is stranded at a school sports ground in Port Shepstone, as they don’t have anywhere to go.

Speaking for uThukela District Municipality, communications officer Jabulani Mkhonza stated that accommodation had been organised for all the athletes. However, the quality of accommodation was not the same for all of them. “So it is not true they have no accommodation,” he stressed.

Some were put up in a luxury hotel, while others had very poor accommodation. It was the athletes themselves who decided to all boycott the accommodation, as the ones in the luxury hotel felt guilty about sleeping in the the lap of luxury while others had to make do with very poor accommodation, he added.

He admitted there was a problem with the planning and they were working to resolve the issue.

This has been strongly denied by those in Port Shepstone who insist that uThukela provided no accommodation at all for them!!!!
