Suspects behind bars for business robbery in Ladysmith

Five men aged between 21 and 34 are behind bars and stand accused of having been involved in a business robbery that occurred at a local wholesaler during June.

Three of the men, one of whom is believed to be the mastermind behind the robbery, were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning (August 2).

Further investigation led to the arrest of two more suspects in the Steadville area, one of whom is a former employee of the wholesaler. An airtime dispensing machine valued at R15,000 was recovered at his premises.

All the suspects appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where they were remanded into custody.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for August 11.

Police officers from the Ladysmith Detective Service, Uthukela Cluster Trio Crime Task Team, as well as Ladysmith Visible Policing were involved in the arrests.
