Awards to honour top learners at Lasec

Uwais Vawda holding the prestigious Dux Award

Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) recently staged its Annual Speech and Awards Evening at the Civic Hall.

The evening was well attended and the school honoured all learners who have done exceptionally well in both the curricular and extracurricular fields for the year 2017.

In his address, school principal Mr AN Govender congratulated all the recipients and their parents, and called on them not to rest in their quest for academic excellence. He reminded them that the “real world” will always judge them on merit.

School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson Moulana Ahmed captivated the parents with his powerful address which focused on pressing issues that are affecting the academic performance of the majority of learners.

A total of 279 awards were presented, and the recipients looked upbeat and confident to take on their final examinations.

The most prestigious Dux Award 2017 was presented to Uwais Vawda for his sterling academic achievements.

The much-sought-after Sports Boy Award was presented to Akhil Sibran, while the Sports Girl Award went to Anele Mbatha.

The Lasec Speech and Awards Evening is the highlight on the school’s academic calendar, and the school acknowledged the achievements of its learners with great pomp and ceremony.
