Rapists sentenced to prison time for cases in Ladysmith

Two men, aged 22 and 45, will spend a long time behind bars after standing accused of rape. They were recently sentenced for their crimes.

The 22-year-old was found guilty of raping the 11-year-old daughter of his girlfriend.

On December 24 last year, the child was asleep with her sister at their home when their mother left to make a purchase at a shop.

The accused was able to get the house key and took advantage of the absence of his girlfriend to rape the child.

The accused was found in the house, where he was assaulted by neighbours.

Police intervened and arrested the suspect.

Bail was opposed by the investigating officer and the accused was sentenced in the Ezakheni Regional Court on Thursday, October 26 this year. He received a sentence of 18 years’ imprisonment.

He stood trial and was sentenced in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on October 23 this year.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. He was found not suitable to work with children and his name is to be entered in the National Register of Sexual Offenders.

The cases were investigated by Warrant Officer Masengemi from the Ladysmith Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
