Illegal dumping takes over Willow Drive in Ladysmith

The site where illegal dumping is taking place in Willow Drive

Residents of Willow Drive are tired of complaining about illegal dumping taking place in their street.

The residents say that dumping takes place every day, and they actually see people offloading their rubbish.

One homeowner claims he has contacted the municipality and Public Safety on numerous occasions, yet nothing has been done about the problem.

Residents say it is people from the area who are dumping all their waste “on their own doorstep” so to speak.

They go on to say that, in the dark of night, suspicious-looking vehicles come and park in the area where the dumping is taking place, which worries them from a crime point of view. They feel that criminal elements could possibly be loitering (not littering) in the area, planning their next nefarious deeds.

One homeowner added that when the wind blows, rubbish is blown into their yards and they do not know what to do about the worsening situation.

Councillor Abbas Warasally commented on the matter by saying that if residents are scared to tell Public Safety who the culprits are when it comes to illegal dumping, they can tell him and he will report them.

The consensus from the community at large is that illegal dumping is taking place all over town and it is really getting out of hand. What’s worse is that nothing seems to be done about it.
