Councillor charged for unlicensed firearm, ammunition appears in Ladysmith court

A councillor is in hot water with the law, facing charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Last week Monday (November 6), police were patrolling the Queen Street taxi rank when they arrested the 45-year-old man.

The councillor from Alfred Duma Local Municipality was arrested and found in possession of an unlicensed pistol.

He made his first appearance in court on Tuesday last week and was held in custody for a formal bail application today (November 14).

The 45-year old councillor, dressed in smart-casual attire, made a brief appearance in C-court.

Family, friends and other councillors filled the court gallery and waited in anticipation to hear the outcome of the bail application.

The magistrate granted bail of R2000 and the case was remanded until December 14 for further investigation.

Police are investigating a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
