Police make arrests for drugs, illegal firearm in Ladysmith

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Monday, January 1, after two Ladysmith K9 Unit officers followed up on information about drugs being sold in Ezakheni A-Section. The suspect was found in possession of 78 capsules suspected to be whoonga.

He briefly appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of drugs.

On the same day at about 7.30pm, Ezakheni police officers received information about an unlicensed firearm in the Engodini area of St Chad’s.

On arrival in the area, they recovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol with an empty magazine and a 28-year-old suspect was arrested.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to determine whether it has been used to commit a crime anywhere in the country. The suspect appeared briefly in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, January 3.
